    • I was on a previous Birthright trip to Israel, am I still eligible?

Yes. If you’ve been on a previous classic 10-day Birthright trip, gap-year, Yeshiva, or other organized trip to Israel, you are still eligible for this trip. If you’ve been on a Birthright Volunteer Trip before (including the Hebro one in 2025), you are still eligible, but you must choose the “Book Your Own Travel” option noted in the Program Costs section.

    • I was on a previous Birthright trip to Israel, will this be the same?

No. Your standard Birthright experience was a 10-day trip to multiple tourist sites and cities throughout Israel. This is a volunteer trip to Israel.  We spend five half-days volunteering throughout Israel.. Most evenings will be free on your own.

    • I see this trip is during Tel Aviv Pride - Is this a Pride trip?!

We’re organizing a special trip to Tel Aviv that balances meaningful volunteer work with the magic of Pride.

While the mission is focused on service, we definitely aren't skipping the Parade or the night events! Just a heads-up: the volunteer days start early and require a full heart and a bit of hustle. We’re looking for people who are excited to contribute to the community just as much as they are to celebrate with it.

    • I don’t live in New York City, can I still join?

Certainly! If you're on the group flight, meet the group at JFK 4 hours before departure. Ensure your connecting flight/train arrive so you can meet us at the 4-hour time before our group flight.

    • I’m an aviation-gay and love my specific airlines, have status on xyz airline, have a preferred seat, use access to lounges, want to upgrade my seat, want to arrive to the airport as late as possible etc. How can I do this?

Hardcore aviation-gays are encouraged to choose the ‘Book Your Own Travel to Israel’ option as this is group-travel subsidized trip given to us by the generosity of the Jewish Federations of North America and Birthright Israel. Expect the following before you choose the group flight option:

    1. Arrival to the airport 4-hours before departure

    2. No choice of seats (ie: you may get get a middle seat)

    3. No choice of airlines (ie: expect to fly Arkia Airlines)

    4. No ability to pay for an upgrade to business or first class

    5. You must join the group flight to Israel, but you may book your own return flight or pay a fee to have your flight return changed to a later date.

Please carefully consider the above if you are joining the group flight!

    • What kind of volunteer work will I be doing?

Volunteer placements take place in groups and will be assigned once you arrive in Israel. Volunteering is about 4-6 hours a day and can include activities such as agricultural work, picking fruit and vegetables on farms and sorting and packaging supplies for displaced families, individuals and soldiers.

    • I’d like to see a firm itinerary before I decide to join. When will that be available?

Volunteering activities are based on seasonal community needs and the time of year. Our partners at Yael Adventures have many relationships with NGOs throughout Israel, but the volunteer needs and thus the itinerary, will not be available to just shortly before the trip begins. Please ensure you are comfortable with this prior to registering.

    • Am I guaranteed to be accepted if I apply?

Due to the overwhelming response, we may not be able to accept everyone that applies.

    • How many participants will be on the trip?

This trip can accommodate 50 participants

    • Will the housing accommodations have a safe room?

Yes, all accommodations will have a safe room or a shelter within the building.

    • I am only half-Jewish. Am I eligible for this trip?

Yes. Birthright requires you to have one Jewish parent to be eligible for this volunteer trip.

    • I am a convert to Judaism, am I eligible for this trip?

Yes. You must have completed your conversion in order to be eligible.

    • I am Jewish, but I am married/partnered to someone who is not Jewish. Can they join me on this trip?

Yes. Non-Jewish partners of eligible Jewish applicants may join!

    • I am part of the Israeli LGBTQ community and we’d love to help your group with experiences when the volunteer day is over. who can i contact?

We’d love this! Email us here.

    • I am Israeli, but live abroad.  Am I eligible for this trip?

You can join as long as you have not spent more than one full year in Israel since the age of 18 (sorry, these are the rules of Birthright).

    • I see the trip is eligible to those ages 26-50.  Why are there age restrictions?

These are the rules of Birthright. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this rule.

    • I know Hebro is a group that produces events specifically for gay men—are other members of the LGBTQ community invited to join this trip?

We love and welcome everyone in the LGBTQ community! That said, Hebro’s events and trips are created with gay men in mind. On our last Israel trip, we had participants from across the LGBTQ spectrum, and while we loved the diversity, we found it challenging to recruit enough beyond our core audience to create a comfortable balance for those in the lesbian/queer/trans community. For this trip, we’re focusing on gay, bi, and trans men who feel comfortable in a mostly cis gay male group.

    • I want to extend my trip. Is that possible?

Yes, you can extend your stay. You must fly with the group if you are joining the group flight, but you can extend your trip after the volunteer trip is over. You will be responsible for your own accommodations, health insurance, and general safety once the program has ended. Once you are confirmed on the trip, you will be able to request an extension through the Birthright app. All extension requests go through the travel agency and airline and are subject to fees and availability. There is also an option to cancel your flight home and book your own travel.

    • I want to go…
      - but Israel…
      - but Bibi…
      - but the Israeli government

      - but pinkwashing…
      - but Birthright…

    Passion noted. Participation optional.

    • What happens if the security situation in Israel worsens during my stay?

If the situation in Israel worsens, we will make adjustments to the program including relocation of the group if necessary. Safety and security are our top priorities, and we are in constant communication with Birthright Israel and the Israeli government to ensure that are daily activities are safe.

    • What happens if I need to leave the program before it ends?

Participation in the entirety of the program, from the first day until the last day is mandatory. Orientation and closing program activities are included in the program dates. Participants are required to be in Israel and attend all portions of the program.

In the event of a personal emergency, costs associated with leaving early (flight changes, transportation, etc.) are the responsibility of the participant.

    • Will there be access to WiFi?

Yes, there will be WIFI access in all housing accommodations. There may not be WIFI access at the volunteer sites, so a mobile phone with data is required.

    • Will I be able to observe Shabbat and Kashrut on the program?

Yes, there are no volunteer assignments on Shabbat and you will be able to observe Shabbat and Kashrut according to your practice.

There are synagogues in the area of the housing.

Note: We can't guarantee that your roommates will share the same level of observance, but we will do our best to match you accordingly.

    • Will there be free time when I'm not volunteering?

Yes, when you aren't volunteering or participating in other programming there will be free time.

    • What type of insurance policy is provided, and what additional insurance do I need to provide?

Basic health insurance is included in the program. You will need to show proof of additional health insurance for pre-existing conditions not covered by the health policy.

Basic health insurance will not cover injuries directly connected to the war, however the State of Israel by law does cover such damages for anyone legally in the country.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to Israel.

Note: The health insurance provided does not cover preexisting conditions and you can purchase additional health insurance for $50.
